NABL issues Transition plan from ISO 15189:2012 to ISO 15189:2022 Edition

20 May 2023: In a notice dated 29 December 2022, NABL has issued timeline for transition from 2012 to 2022 edition of NABL standards. It should be noted that usually when it is done, NABL also issues NABL112 and NABL217 for new standards, which has not been done yet, may be they will issue these documents just before 01 July 2023, which has been mentioned as transition date.

NABL in the said circular has stated that labs shall be given the choice to opt for new edition. According to the timeline provided, NABL expects this transition to be completed by 31 December 2024.

NABH SHCO 3rd Edition Compliance Timeline

Network: In an online notice published on NABH website, NABH has informed everyone on the timeline for compliance for all accredited SHCOs for NABH SHCO 3rd Edition Standards.

NABH had recently released NABH SHCO 3rd Edition Standards and its guidebook, though the Standards are free but for guidebook one has to pay रु 3000.

On notice issued on 07 September 2022, NABH said that it will be in full compliance by 01 March 2023.

All assessment being conducted before 01 March 2023 will be on NABH SHCO 2nd Edition Standards

NABH will not accept any new/renewal application of SHCO on 2nd edition after 31 December 2022

NABL issues stict Guidelines on use of NABL Symbol

In May 2022 NABL launch Guidelines for Medical Laboratories where it specified

Lab should display NABL logo publically only if all the parameters are accredited
Lab should only print those parameters on NABL Symbol letter head, which are NABL Accredited, no parameters which are not accredited should be printed on a letter head which has NABL Symbol. Star, Hash symbol use are not valid
Lab should intimate NABL when any employee leaves

NABH Launches New Portal for NABH 5th Edition Accreditation

Network: NABH has recently launched New Portal for NABH Accreditation for 5th Edition Hospital Standards. Portal is in line of Hope Portal for entry level. It should be noted that users are still facing hitches in using the portal, many fields are not functional and some times users gets logged out, with out any reason.

How to Select Clinical Specialties for NABH Entry Level

Network: Often we come across HCOs, who have asked for Clinical specialties in their scope of service, which they don’t even cater properly. They often select these clinical services with hope of getting patients in future.

HCOs should keep in mind that NABH will only consider specialties where HCO has at least 05 cases in last 06 months.

During NABH Entry Level Certification, assessor asks for Scope of Service in Excel Sheet Drop Down List, this document is usually provided by NABH or Assessor but they many a times forget or provide a corrupt file where drop down option does not work. NABL may increase accreditation fee soon

New Delhi, 07 March 2022: It was in July 2021 when NABL had released its general brochure (NABL100), since then this document has not been updated. This document clarifies various fees for accreditation and provides general information. Usually this document is updated every 02-03 months but it has been more than 07 months since changes have been made.

It is learnt from reliable sources that exercise for updating this document is already going on and after updates NABL may increase its fee for accreditation.

NABL releases updated list of Accredited Labs

On 01 March 2022, NABL has released list of updated accredited labs for all categories. It includes medical labs, Testing and Calibration labs, proficiency testing providers, reference material producers and entry level accredited labs.

NABH Introduces Online Application process for CGHS and ECHS empanelment

Quality Council of India and NABH have been doing inspections of Health Care Facilities for CGHS and ECHS empanelment. It was being done by filling manual application and it created lots of issues.

Check Point number 14 and 15 where CT Scan has been written as City Scan

Now QCI and NABH have digitized this process and healthcare organizations can now file application online. On one hand this has simplified the process but on the other the process has been made so complex that it can’t be completed by small organizations without hiring any external help.

Check Point Number 2.1 – Renal Transplant has been spelled as Rental Transplant

Also there are many spelling mistakes, CT scan has been spelled as “City Scan” and Renal ICU has been spelled as “Relent ICU”. There are many errors like these.

We hope that NABH IT department will notice these mistakes and correct them soon.
